Charles “Charlie” Martin was born on November 1, 1906 in Quincy PA, he was the son of the late Alfred H. and Elizabeth D. (Myers) Martin. He lived his early life in Quincy. Charlie attended school in Waynesboro and Quincy. He and his first wife, Mrs. Ida Pauline Martin were married in July 1927 and she died September 28, 1970. He then married Mrs. Louisa (Ratcliff) Martin in July 1972 and she died October 2, 1995. He and his first wife moved to the Greenwood Road address in 1969. Mr. Martin took his apprenticeship at Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro and became a certified Pattern Maker in September 1926. He remained with the company until retiring in 1969. He created a crankshaft Tool, which was later donated to the Hall of Tools in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. Mr. Martin attended the Waynesboro Gospel Chapel on South Broad Street, Waynesboro where he served as teacher and elder. He later attended the Greenwood Hills Bible Chapel, Fayetteville where he served on the Board of Directors of the Greenwood Hills Bible Conference of Fayetteville. He also taught Bible studies at the Culver City Bible College in Culver City, Calif. He did missionary work with Dr. and Mrs. James Teeter in the Mid-East in 1969. Mr. Martin enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing shuffleboard, winning many awards and trophies. He passed away in 2002, living to be 96.
