ROBERT (BERT) GAMBLE
In his earlier days, Bert was appointed as a field representative with a very well known company, whose products were produced exclusively for use by sheep farmers. He was thankful that the training he received with the company was a broad based one, covering not only the subject of sheep farming, but also dealing with agricultural and veterinary matters. He was most anxious to gain first hand knowledge and experience of the noble art of shepherding and took every opportunity available to give assistance at various "gatherings", such as dipping, shearing and the many other times when the sheep were being attended to. In this way, he learned practically how products were being used and the benefits which could be achieved by good husbandry.

During his time on the field, he visited sheep farms, sheep shows and sheep sales, all of which were regular events in many parts of the country. In the later years of business life, he was involved with various research projects from time to time, which brought him into contact with many of the well known Research and Development Institutes. He found their scientists to be a most fascinating group, wholly dedicated to research in animal health and welfare. It certainly was a most interesting occupation in which to be involved commercially, and it also stimulated his interest in the many facets of sheep and shepherding which we read of throughout the Bible, from the early book of Genesis until the last book of Revelation.

With both of these interests and activities coinciding, it was his pleasure, on many occasions, to share secular observations, with spiritual applications, at many gatherings of the Lord's people. Consequently, he wished to put some of them into print, not in an endeavour to project his own limited knowledge of sheep farming, but only to illustrate the detailed instructions as found in Psalm 23, given for guidance to spiritual shepherds, which may not be so apparent to those of us who have no knowledge of sheep.

Bert is a skilled expositor of the Holy Scriptures, now retired. He is particularly conversant with the types and shadows of the Old Testament and has conducted many series of meetings on such topics as the Feasts of Jehovah in Leviticus 23. He and his wife Isabel are in fellowship with the believers meeting in Kirkmuirhill Gospel Hall (Lanarkshire).
